Graduate Web Developer

At Black Sheep Creative we're serious about beautiful and functional web design. Locally grown in the Waikato, our 18-year journey has been go go go with the development of hundreds of websites and support for thousands of users.

Due to growth, we are looking for two profiles – a Graduate Developer and a Senior Web Developer that can support us in improving our development practices and providing technical leadership to our team and clients.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with a passionate team of designers and developers helping local businesses harness the power of the web. Most of our websites are developed using Silverstripe; We use all the fancy tools like Github Actions, Docker and our own CLI tools™. We spend our days writing in PHP, HTML, CSS/SCSS and JavaScript.

We are super open to ideas and love to try new things when they fit the bill; if you have fresh ideas and think of a way to improve something, we are all ears.

Naturally self-directed, you aptly manage multiple projects and priorities assigned to you. You believe that together is better, so mucking in with whatever needs to be done doesn't phase you.

If you are a natural problem solver, you're systematic when troubleshooting, and able to accurately understand needs and generate solutions. Being a great communicator means you easily connect with clients to provide support with queries, over the phone, in person and via email as required, tailoring responses into meaningful and on-point information.

Key qualities that make you the best fit for this role:

  • Skilled in object-oriented programming, producing and understanding REST APIs
  • Confident and effective advocating approaches with clients
  • Experience providing teaching and mentoring
  • Passion for design with an eye for detail (after all, it's the little things that count)
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and information to non-technical people
  • Organisational skills, you manage your time and deliver on your commitments.

Experiences in some of the following or similar tech stacks/process/tools

  • PHP - Silverstripe
  • HTML
  • CSS - SCSS, Tailwind or other common practices such as (BEM)
  • JS - jQuery, React, Vue
  • CI/CD - Github Actions, Azure Pipelines
  • Docker
  • Shopify

Our focused service offerings mean we've been able to hone what we do continuously. Join us on our journey to perfect our processes and create exceptional value for our clients.

If this sounds like you, please apply below or send your details to jobs@baa.co.nz and join the flock!
